What part will you play in the Great Adventure?

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

One of the things I love about spring is that the sun is out longer so the children in our neighborhood are out playing later. The other evening as we were out front, I looked at all the families outside and thought about the many struggles they face. A couple of the dads had recently lost their moms, another lady had hip surgery, and many of the parents were trying to find a balance to the events going on in their lives. My heart broke as I thought about the struggles these families are facing. Then I thought about trying to get to know all these people and I quickly felt overwhelmed. How can I get to know them in hopes of sharing the gospel with them? Then these words from Jesus in Matthew 5 popped in my head, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

When I first heard about the idea of neighboring groups, it was overwhelming. Then Nikki and I started meeting our neighbors and a few of them were attending churches that were doing the Love Where You Live campaign. As we got to know one of our neighbors who lived on our street, we decided to partner together to do a neighboring group. We began to share the load of loving our neighbors and shining a light on our street.

Sign-ups for The Great Adventure and Bible Clubs began this week. One adjustment for Bible Clubs this year is that people are encouraged to sign-up by neighborhood in the lobby. One role we added for Great Adventure is a Neighborhood Lead. This role is to be the point person and to help strategically plan for clubs in their neighborhood. If you are interested, sign up here. Please contact Eric McArthur or me if you have any questions.

The Neighborhood Leads will be instrumental in bringing together a team of Support Hosts to share the load of bringing Bible Clubs to their neighborhood.

As you prepare for Great Adventure 2016, please take time to pray about your role this year. If you have no idea what the Great Adventure is or need a refresher. Here is a brief video that provides an overview.

For God’s glory,
Jeff Hunt
