Financial Peace University

“God works in amazing ways.”  That’s what I was thinking when Randy and I met with Pastor Jeff Hunt about our upcoming fall Financial Peace University (FPU) class.

Last spring, Jeff had asked Randy to finish teaching the semester due to unforeseen circumstances. Randy had taught FPU before and stepped in to help.

I’ve always thought that it was Randy’s gift to serve in this ministry area. As for me, with a full-time job and a home to take care of, how would I find the time? When Jeff mentioned the idea of Randy and I teaching the class together, I was truly wondering, “What could I have to offer?”

Our first Financial Peace class started with five couples, two singles, Randy and myself. I love to bake, so I decided to bring some treats each week to class. I also helped Randy with setup and tried to be encouraging to him.

As the weeks went by, I discovered that I began to look forward to Tuesday nights. The videos were interesting and funny, and gave pointers on how to reduce debt and take care of our family financially. It quickly became easy for everyone to open up with one another. I saw families and marriages become stronger as couples got on the same page with their finances. We discovered that we could work together toward a common goal that would benefit our futures. As a class, we ended the semester with a dinner, graduation and plans to get together in the future.

In addition to the great relationships that began in FPU, Tuesday nights became a mini date night for Randy and I. We would meet after work, drive together for a quick bite to eat and then go prepare for the class together. After class each week, our night ended with great conversation on the ride home.

Like I said, “God works in amazing ways.”  I can’t wait to see what happens during our Fall 2017 FPU class. The class begins on Tuesday, September 26, and meets weekly from 6:30-8:30pm in Room 206 at the church. Please register online for this awesome class – we hope you join us! Click here to check out the Financial Peace University page on our website for more info.
