40 Days of Prayer
Knowing if a choice that I make is based on faith or foolishness is a lifelong internal struggle for me. I recall experiences like choosing a college, leaving a job, and purchasing a car as a few examples. I certainly desire to make choices that line up with God’s will. But how do I know, exactly, what that WILL is? As for all things in life, God answers that in his word given to us.
1 Thessalonians 5:15-17 says,
15 See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Do you see what I see? “This is the will of God…”
That seems pretty plain to me. 1. Rejoice. 2. Pray. 3. Give Thanks.
Most of us who attend church regularly have probably experienced times in our life when we prayed regularly. We also have experienced times that we did not pray much at all. Reasons for praying or not praying vary for each of us. One of the strongest arguments for not praying, though, is feeling let down by God in the past – or the fear that you will not receive what you are so desperately hoping to see God accomplish in you or for you. We don’t want to set ourselves up to be disappointed by God.
My friends, do not be discouraged! Let this weekend be the start of a revival of prayer in your life. Recall the parable in Luke 18 that begins with this: “And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.”
This Sunday, February 11 we will enter 40 days of prayer for transformation! We are asking everyone to choose one area in their life they would like to see God transform in or for them personally. You will pray for this same thing for 40 consecutive days. Additionally, journals will be provided with scripture and prayer focuses as a guide for you to pray for transformation in our city.
Could you imagine what it would look like for God to answer a transforming prayer in your life?
Could you imagine what it would look like for our city to be transformed for the will of God?
